Sachin Shetty is the Executive Director of the Center for Secure and Intelligent Critical Systems (CSICS). He holds a joint appointment as Professor with the Old Dominion University Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. Sachin Shetty received his PhD in Modeling and Simulation from Old Dominion University in 2007 under the supervision of Prof. Min Song. Prior to joining Old Dominion University, he was an Associate Professor with the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at Tennessee State University. He was also the associate director of the Tennessee Interdisciplinary Graduate Engineering Research Institute and directed the Cyber Security laboratory at Tennessee State University. He also holds a dual appointment as an Engineer at the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Indiana. His research interests lie at the intersection of computer networking, network security and machine learning. His laboratory conducts cloud and mobile security research and has received over $18 million in funding from National Science Foundation, Air Office of Scientific Research, Air Force Research Lab, Office of Naval Research, Department of Homeland Security, Department of Energy, Office of Undersecretary of Defense for Research and Engineering, MITRE, Commonwealth of Virginia, Sentara Healthcare and Boeing. He is the site lead on the Department of Defense Cyber Security Center of Excellence, Department of Defense Artificial Intelligence Center of Excellence, the Department of Homeland Security National Center of Excellence, the Critical Infrastructure Resilience Institute (CIRI), and Department of Energy, Cyber Resilient Energy Delivery Consortium (CREDC). Recently, he has developing blockchain empowered solutions to address cybersecurity issues in distributed systems for the Department of Defense, Department of Energy and Sentara Healthcare. He serves as the chair for the IEEE P2418.6 Internet of Medical Things. He has edited a book entitled “Blockchain for Distributed Systems” for Wiley-IEEE Press.
He has collaborated with industry partners, such as, Sentara Healthcare, Accenture, and Reliability First to transition the research deliverables into commercial products. Cyber Risk Scoring and Mitigation (CRISM) and Bloxure. He has authored and coauthored over 200 research articles in journals, conference proceedings, edited four books for IEEE-Press and Springer, with over 4000 citations and h-index of 30. Two research papers were chosen as the Top 50 academic papers in Blockchain in 2018. He has received the Commonwealth Cyber Initiative Fellow, DHS Scientific Leadership Award and and inducted into the Tennessee State University million dollar club. He is the winner of the Electric Power Research Institute Cyber security challenge competition in 2019. He was selected as Fulbright Specialist to conduct critical infrastructure security research at University of Iceland. He served as Area chair for Security, Privacy, Trust and Incentives at ICCCN 2020, cyber risk track at WinterSim 2020, cybersecurity engineering track at SpringSim2019 and SpringSim 2020, Security Trust and Privacy in Emerging Cyber-Physical Systems Workshop held in conjunction with SECON 2019, 1st Light Chain workshop held in conjunction with IEEE Blockchain, Atlanta, 2019, 1st International Workshop on BLockchain Enabled Sustainable Smart Cities (BLESS 2018), Kansas City, MO, USA, Sept. 19, 2018 In Conjunction with the 4th IEEE Annual International Smart Cities Conference (ISC2 2018). He has graduated nine Ph.D. students and has been invited to give over 50 technical talks at various institutions and events, including DARPA, Army Research Lab, John Hopkins University, Argonne National Lab, MITRE, US PACOM. He has served as panel reviewer for National Science Foundation, Department of Energy and Department of Homeland Security. He has also moderated panels for National Defense and Intelligence and WinterSim Conferences. He is a Senior Member of IEEE.
